Biden calls for diplomatic solution between Israel and Hezbollah

Addressing the 79th UN General Assembly for the last time as president, Biden delivered messages on a wide range of topics, from the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to the Israel-Hezbollah tension, and from U.S.-China competition to the Russia-Ukraine War.

U.S. President Biden, who has faced backlash from the international community for his unconditional support for Israel, used language similar to his previous messages regarding Gaza.

Stating that the whole world must be sensitive to ensure Israel does not experience a day like October 7 again, Biden also noted that civilians in Gaza are going through very difficult days.

"INNOCENT CIVILIANS IN GAZA ARE ALSO LIVING THROUGH HELL"

Biden said, "Like the hostages (held by Hamas), innocent civilians in Gaza are also living through hell. Thousands have been killed, including aid workers, too many have been displaced, and they are facing an urgent humanitarian situation."

Emphasizing that it is time to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, Biden stated, "It is time for all parties to finalize their terms, bring the hostages home, end the suffering in Gaza, and end this war."

Noting that a proposal supported by them and the UN Security Council for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza is on the table, Biden expressed that this agreement must be reached.

Touching upon the increasing Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank, Biden said, "Let us also point to the rising violence against innocent Palestinians in the West Bank and set the conditions for a better future, including a two-state solution."

Biden stated that only through a two-state solution would the Palestinian people have a state where they can determine their own future, while also ensuring Israel's security.

"A FULL-SCALE WAR IS NOT IN ANYONE'S INTEREST"

Arguing that they have been working to prevent a larger war in the region since October 7, 2023, Biden reacted to Hezbollah's attacks but did not comment on Israel's attacks.

Regarding the rising tension between Israel and Hezbollah, Biden assessed, "Even as tensions have escalated, a full-scale war is not in anyone's interest. A diplomatic solution is still possible, and frankly, it remains the only path to sustainable security."

RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR

Making assessments regarding the Russia-Ukraine War, Biden said, "The good news is that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's war has failed, he has not achieved his main goal. He wanted to break Ukraine, but Ukraine is still free. He wanted to weaken NATO, but NATO is even stronger and more united than ever with the memberships of Finland and Sweden."

Stating that U.S. support for Kyiv will continue in the same way, Biden said they will make every effort to ensure Ukraine can protect its sovereignty and independence.

CONFLICTS IN SUDAN

Emphasizing that the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflicts in Sudan has left 8 million people facing famine, Biden explained that the U.S., along with other allied countries, continues to send humanitarian aid there.

Biden delivered the message, "The world must stop arming (this place). Stop blocking humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan and stop this war now."

COMPETITION WITH CHINA

U.S. President Biden also made assessments regarding U.S.-China competition, pointing out that "competition must be maintained responsibly" in this regard.

Biden said, "While we want to manage our competition with China responsibly, we also uphold our own principles, so that this competition does not lead to conflict."

Reminding that they have started cooperating with Beijing again on the fight against synthetic drugs, Biden gave the message that they are open to cooperation in necessary areas.

Touching upon the alliances they have established in the Indo-Pacific region against China, Biden commented, "These partnerships are not against any country. These are blocs formed for a free, open, peaceful, and secure Indo-Pacific region."
