Biden signs budget bill providing $1.2 trillion in funding to the government

U.S. President Joe Biden has signed the bill that prevents a government shutdown.

By signing the $1.2 trillion spending package approved by the U.S. Senate earlier today, Biden put an end to the possibility of a government shutdown.

In a statement, Biden emphasized that the package is good news for the American people, saying, “This agreement represents a compromise. That means neither side got everything it wanted.”

Biden stated that the spending budget rejects extreme cuts from House Republicans, invests in childcare, cancer research, and mental health, advances U.S. leadership abroad, and provides resources to secure the border, which his administration has been working to address successfully.

In his statement, Biden called on Congress to pass additional legislation, saying their work is not yet finished. Calling on the House of Representatives to “pass the bipartisan national security supplemental bill to advance our national security interests,” Biden described the bill as “the toughest and fairest reforms in decades.”
