Bloody attack in the heart of New York: Six dead, attacker committed suicide

An armed attack at the skyscraper located at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, one of New York's busiest areas, has caused great sorrow in the city. The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that six people lost their lives in the incident.

It was reported that the deceased included one NYPD officer and four civilians, and that the attacker committed suicide. While the motive for the attack has not yet been clarified, a comprehensive investigation has been launched by federal and local units.

In a statement made by the NYPD, it was stated that the family of the deceased police officer had been notified. Three senior security officials stated that the officer was shot and killed while confronting the attacker. The identity of the officer has not yet been released to the public.

According to sources, the attacker committed suicide with his own weapon following the attack. The NYPD announced that the attacker was 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura. No definitive information has been reached as to why Tamura, who was registered as a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, carried out the attack. Authorities described the attacker as a "lone wolf."

New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch stated in a post on the social media platform X, "The scene is currently under control and the lone attacker has been neutralized." Immediately following the incident, all entry and exit points in the area were closed, and a detailed sweep was initiated inside the building.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Pam Bondi announced on X that a command center had been established following the incident, led by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. Bondi stated that FBI agents, as well as federal prosecutors, are actively working in the area.

The 345 Park Avenue building, where the armed attack took place, is located just a few blocks from major hubs such as Grand Central Terminal and the Museum of Modern Art. The 190-meter-tall building is large enough to cover an entire city block and is known as one of the few skyscrapers in New York to have its own zip code. The building is also prominent as the headquarters of the investment firm Blackstone.

The motive for the attack has not yet been clarified. Security forces are investigating Shane Tamura's background and possible motivations. There has been no official statement regarding whether the incident is linked to terrorism. Authorities are evaluating various possibilities regarding the attacker's past activities.

Security measures in New York have been temporarily increased. The NYPD has asked citizens to stay away from the area around Park Avenue and 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan.
