Merseyside Police in England announced that two children lost their lives and 11 people were injured following a knife attack in Southport, near Liverpool.
Following the incident, the 17-year-old attacker was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. While the motive for the attack has not yet been clarified, police stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
SIX OF THE NINE CHILDREN IN CRITICAL CONDITION
It was reported that six of the nine injured children are in critical condition. Additionally, two adults who were trying to protect the children from the attack remain in life-threatening condition.
The incident occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop. A yoga instructor and a dance instructor were working at the two-hour event.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams and seeing children emerging from the event covered in blood. Following the incident, Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the attack as "horrific and deeply shocking," while King Charles III conveyed his "condolences and prayers."
Police did not disclose the identity of the attacker, but stated that the individual lived in a village about 8 kilometers from the scene of the attack and was originally from Cardiff.
