The three-member Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, consisting of Bosniak, Serb, and Croat members, unanimously decided today to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize "due to his commitment to establishing lasting peace in Gaza and the Middle East."
The decision was adopted unanimously by the rotating chair of the council, Croat member Zeljko Komsic, Bosniak member Denis Becirovic, and Serb member Zeljka Cvijanovic.
The decision by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina marks the first time Trump has been officially nominated for the prestigious award.
In a statement released following the session where the decision was adopted, it was noted that the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina assessed that Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for paving the way for a new peace process in the Middle East by mediating between the Israeli and Palestinian sides regarding the war in Gaza.
Cvijanovic, the Serb and only female member of the Presidency, stated in a post on social media, "I am proud to have initiated the process of nominating U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. My proposal was accepted by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. President Trump has once again shown that he deserves this award with his recent success in helping to end the conflict in Gaza."
