US President Donald Trump has made striking statements regarding the potential negotiation process with Iran. Speaking to the American magazine Fortune, Trump criticized the Iranian side's stance in the negotiation process, while the Tehran administration issued new messages regarding the Strait of Hormuz and regional security.

TRUMP: "ARE YOU CRAZY?"

Giving a one-hour interview to Fortune magazine in the Oval Office following his visit to China, Trump made assessments regarding Iranian officials.

Stating that the Iranians "are constantly shouting and yelling," Trump made the following remarks regarding a potential deal with Iran:

"I can tell you one thing: They are dying to sign the deal. But they make a deal, and then they send a document that has nothing to do with the deal you made. And I say, 'Are you crazy?'"

"NEGOTIATION" STATEMENT FROM TEHRAN

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made assessments regarding the agenda during his weekly press conference in the capital, Tehran.

Stating that negotiations will not be conducted through the media, Baghaei said:

"Talks are continuing with Pakistani mediation. We have no hostility toward any country in the region, but regional countries, especially the United Arab Emirates (UAE), need to learn lessons from recent events."

"THE US AND ISRAEL DO NOT PROVIDE SECURITY"

Arguing that the presence of the US and Israel in the region does not produce security, Baghaei said that the visits of Israeli officials to the UAE were not secret from their perspective.

The Iranian spokesperson stated that they are closely following developments in the region and are aware of the relevant contacts.

NEW MECHANISM MESSAGE FOR THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ

Baghaei also made statements regarding the discussions on charging transit fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

"We are in contact with Oman to establish a mechanism regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Technical delegations also held meetings last week. We have put a lot of effort into maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. There are legal and logical foundations for charging transit fees through the strait. Reducing the issue of the Strait of Hormuz to just an economic dimension is to simplify the matter and move away from the main focus."

IRAN'S EMPHASIS ON URANIUM AND MARITIME SECURITY

Stating that Iran's right to uranium enrichment is recognized under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Baghaei said that this right remains valid.

Making assessments regarding maritime security, Baghaei held US policies responsible for the insecurity experienced in the region.

"Russia and China know that the insecurity in the seas and the threat to maritime trade are US-sourced. We agree with China on the freedom of maritime trade. It is the US that causes problems in maritime trade with piracy."

STATEMENT ON SOUTH KOREAN-FLAGGED SHIP

The Iranian spokesperson stated that investigations are ongoing regarding the targeting of a South Korean-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Baghaei also said that despite economic pressure and threats, Iran will not take a step back from its interests, and that the US knows how they would respond to a possible attack.
