Following the seizure of a large part of Aleppo by armed groups opposed to the Assad regime in Syria, the Syrian army announced that it has decided to withdraw from Aleppo.
In a statement issued by the Syrian army, the phrases "We have withdrawn temporarily. Our goal is to launch a counter-offensive" were included.
Following this development, the opposition also captured Saraqib.
The army's statement included the following: “Our armed forces have engaged in intense clashes along a line exceeding 100 kilometers, and during this process, dozens of our soldiers have been martyred and some have been wounded.” It was stated that preparations would continue until reinforcements reach the region.
DENIAL FROM STATE MEDIA
Military sources speaking to Reuters reported that Russia will send new military aid to Syria and that the equipment will reach the region within 72 hours. On the other hand, Syrian state media, stating that clashes are continuing in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside, denied claims that jihadist groups have entered Aleppo.
The information that Aleppo International Airport has been closed and all flights have been suspended was also confirmed by Syrian authorities.
CLAIMS THAT TURKEY APPROVED THE ATTACK
Opposition sources claimed that Turkish intelligence supported the operations of HTS, which acts in coordination with the Syrian National Army (SNA), and gave the green light to the attacks.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli, without addressing these claims, stated, “Maintaining calm in Idlib and its surroundings is a priority issue for Turkey. We are closely monitoring the terrorist groups in Tel Rifaat and Manbij that threaten our border.”
ADVANCE OF JIHADIST GROUPS
Groups led by HTS have captured a total of 108 settlements and points, 86 in the Aleppo countryside and 22 in Idlib. It was claimed that the groups have established control over an area of approximately 850 square kilometers in Aleppo and Idlib.
CONTROL OF ALEPPO AIRPORT IS WITH THE PYD
Sources close to HTS stated that with the withdrawal of the Syrian regime from Aleppo, control of the airport in the region has passed to the PYD.
