UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak could not withstand the pressure and has dismissed Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
Braverman's anti-immigrant rhetoric and her description of pro-Palestine marches as "hate marches" had left her position shaky.
In an article published in The Times, she had written that the police were applying double standards regarding demonstrations, banning right-wing protests while approving pro-Palestine marches.
Following these remarks by the minister, far-right British groups attempted to intervene in the march held on Saturday and clashed with the police.
Calls for the dismissal of Braverman, who drew significant public backlash, had come not only from the opposition but also from within her own party.
Braverman had also served as Home Secretary in the Liz Truss government, which lasted only 45 days in 2022. However, she resigned after sending an official document from her personal email address. She was reappointed to the same position when Rishi Sunak became prime minister.
NEW ROLE FOR FORMER PRIME MINISTER!
Following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's dismissal of Braverman, further changes to the cabinet are expected. The arrival of former prime minister David Cameron at the Prime Minister's residence this morning sparked rumors that he would take on the role of Foreign Secretary in the new cabinet. Shortly after, Cameron's new role was shared with the public.
First, James Cleverly was appointed to the Home Secretary position vacated by Braverman. Minister of State for Schools Nick Gibb resigned from his post. Neil O'Brien resigned as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health. The Transport Minister submitted his resignation to the prime minister. It is possible to see this initial activity as a signal of a major change in the cabinet.
On the other hand, Suella Braverman signaled a harsh resignation speech after her dismissal, stating, "I will have more to say in due course." Let's see how British politics will take shape with the new week.
