Breaking News: UK Prime Minister Starmer has resigned

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he has resigned from his post.

Following the appointment of Peter Mandelson, who had been in the spotlight due to his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, as Ambassador to Washington, the failure to implement certain promises made during the election period, and the losses suffered in the local elections held in May, demands within the Labour Party for Starmer to step down had been increasing.

With calls coming from prominent figures in the party, the name of Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham had begun to emerge for the new leadership.

BURNHAM BECAME AN MP

Andy Burnham, who needed to be a Member of Parliament to qualify for the Labour Party leadership, had wanted to run in the Gorton and Denton by-election held in February, but this attempt was blocked by Starmer.

Later, having gained the right to run in the Makerfield by-election by a decision of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee, Burnham succeeded in entering parliament in the election held yesterday.

CALLS FOR RESIGNATION HAD COME FROM WITHIN THE PARTY

Former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and former Health Secretary Wes Streeting had also previously called on Starmer to step down.

While Streeting announced that he would join the leadership race, Rayner stated that she would cast her support for Andy Burnham.
