Call for AI from China

Speaking at the opening of the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai, China, Li pointed out that 2.5 billion people in the world still lack internet access and that many developing countries are unable to benefit from the development of artificial intelligence technology.

Stating that this "knowledge gap" in the field of artificial intelligence must be bridged, Li said, "We must create a fair and open development environment so that more countries can benefit from this emerging technology."

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS THE COMMON WEALTH OF HUMANITY"

Expressing that China believes development is only successful when everyone can enjoy its benefits, Li used the phrase, "Artificial intelligence is the common wealth of humanity."

Li also pointed to the risks posed by artificial intelligence, saying, "The risks caused by artificial intelligence are a common problem for all of humanity. No country can remain outside of this. Given the rapid development of this emerging technology, countries must ensure that it is safe, reliable, and controllable."

Stating that China has a significant share in the global development of artificial intelligence and offers practical experience for global AI governance, Li called for "establishing standard norms based on broad consensus" through an international mechanism open to universal participation by deepening cooperation between countries in this field.

Pointing out that the development of artificial intelligence is both a great opportunity and a great challenge for the world, Li continued his words as follows:

"The course of artificial intelligence is like sailing in a vast ocean. The scenery before us is exciting, but we will inevitably encounter storms along the way. If we set the right course, work together, and help each other, we can reach a better place."

CHINA'S AI RESOLUTION SUBMITTED TO THE UN

The artificial intelligence resolution China submitted to the United Nations General Assembly was adopted on July 1 with the support of 140 countries.

In the resolution titled "Enhancing International Cooperation on Capacity-Building of Artificial Intelligence," it was emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence should be human-centered and should benefit humanity.

The resolution, which called for supporting the AI capacity-building of countries, especially developing countries, pointed out that the inclusive, beneficial, and sustainable development of artificial intelligence should contribute to the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
