Cannabis legalized in Germany! Celebrations begin in Berlin

Germany has become the third country in the European Union to adopt a legislative change legalizing cannabis for personal use.

According to a report in BirGün, German citizens gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to celebrate this change. The bill allows individuals aged 18 and over to possess and consume certain amounts of cannabis. It also permits the cultivation of a limited number of cannabis plants at home. The use of cannabis in public spaces is prohibited outside of specific hours.

The details of the bill are as follows:

Adults will be able to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis and keep 50 grams of cannabis in their homes.

Up to three cannabis plants can be grown in homes.

Those who exceed the specified quantity limits may face fines or imprisonment.

The use of cannabis in public spaces will only be permitted between 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM. The bill, which allows for the establishment of Cannabis Clubs, stipulates that these clubs must be opened with official permission and can have up to 500 members. The clubs will have permission to grow and sell cannabis, but the use of cannabis within the club will be prohibited. Those who wish to purchase cannabis will need to be members of these clubs, and members will be able to purchase a maximum of 50 grams of cannabis per month. For those between the ages of 18 and 21, this amount will be limited to 30 grams per month. Cannabis seedlings and seeds will also only be available from these clubs.
