Cartel war in Mexico: Behind the scenes of the operation where El Mencho was killed
Following the military operation in Mexico that resulted in the death of CJNG leader El Mencho, violence has erupted across the country, while the government announced the successful completion of the US-backed operation. Numerous cartel members were killed in the clashes, heavy weaponry was seized, and extraordinary security measures were implemented in the state of Jalisco.

The Mexican government has informed the public about the operation that resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the country's most powerful criminal organizations, known as "El Mencho".
In a statement issued by the Mexican Ministry of Defense, it was stated that a military operation was conducted in the city of Tapalpa, Jalisco, to capture El Mencho. The statement noted, "Military forces that were attacked during the operation returned fire to ensure their own safety."
DEAD AND WOUNDED IN CLASHES
According to the ministry's statement, 4 members of the criminal organization known as "CJNG" lost their lives at the scene during the clashes. The statement added, "Three cartel members who were seriously wounded died while being transported by air to Mexico City. This group includes El Mencho."
The statement, which reported that two cartel members were captured alive, included the following: "Various weapons and armored vehicles were seized, including rocket launchers capable of downing aircraft and destroying armored vehicles." It was also reported that 3 security personnel wounded during the operation were transferred to medical facilities in Mexico City.
INTELLIGENCE COOPERATION WITH THE US
The Ministry of Defense announced that the US also provided support in the execution of the operation. The statement said, "In the execution of the operation, in addition to central military intelligence information, supplementary information provided by the authorities of that country within the framework of bilateral coordination and cooperation with the US was also utilized."
Stating that additional military units were dispatched to the region to ensure security in the state of Jalisco, the statement added, "These actions once again demonstrate the determination of the Mexican Ministry of Defense to ensure the country's security."
SHEINBAUM: LIFE IS NORMAL ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated in a post on her social media account that they are in full coordination with all state administrations following the operation. Emphasizing that the government is regularly sharing developments regarding the security situation, Sheinbaum said, "Activities are continuing as normal in most of the country."
US HAD PLACED A 15 MILLION DOLLAR BOUNTY
Following the announcement of El Mencho's death, it was reported that cartel members set vehicles on fire in many cities and carried out an attack on Guadalajara International Airport. Jalisco State Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro called on the public to stay at home "until the situation is brought under control," announcing that public transport services had been suspended and that travel on state roads should be avoided due to "acts of violence" spreading across at least five regions.
Meanwhile, it was known that the US had placed a 15 million dollar bounty on El Mencho's head for his capture.
