According to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, a timeframe from 03:00 to 09:00 has been set for the YPG/SDF to withdraw from Aleppo. During this interval, ceasefire provisions will be in effect. The ministry stated that the withdrawing groups will only be permitted to carry light weapons and that their safe passage toward the northeast will be conducted under the supervision of the Syrian army. It was also noted that these transitions will be carried out in coordination with internal security units.
Following violent incidents in various parts of Aleppo in recent days, the Damascus administration had called on the YPG/SDF to withdraw from the region and launched operations against elements that did not comply. In particular, the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo have been in the spotlight due to precision operations by the Syrian army.
As the security crisis in Aleppo escalates, nine Syrians have lost their lives and 55 people have been injured in attacks carried out since January 6. Statements from within the city announced that priority has been given to the evacuation of civilians and that 142 thousand people have been moved to safe zones. It was stated that the Ashrafieh neighborhood has largely come under the control of the Syrian army.
TSK STANDS READY IN THE REGION
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have been spotted in northern Aleppo with armored military vehicles. According to information obtained from security sources, the TSK has increased its alert level against potential new attacks. Military activity in the region has intensified, particularly due to YPG attacks targeting the Syrian army.
The Ministry of National Defense emphasized the following in its statement on the matter: “The Syrian government has launched a counter-terrorism operation in Aleppo to ensure public order and the safety of its citizens. This operation is being carried out entirely by the Syrian army. The security of Syria is our security. Turkey is closely monitoring developments. Our country supports the fight against terrorist organizations on the basis of Syria's unity and territorial integrity. Should Syria request assistance, Turkey will provide the necessary support.”
The course of developments in the region will be determined by the next steps taken by the Syrian administration and the stance of the YPG/SDF regarding the withdrawal. Turkey, meanwhile, is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any new risks from emerging along the border line and its surroundings.
