Speaking to the Israeli press, the official said that the parties will meet next Tuesday at the US State Department in Washington, D.C. The official stated that US State Department Advisor Mike Needham will hold phone calls regarding the matter with Lebanon's Ambassador to the US Nada Hamadeh Moawad, Israel's Ambassador to Washington Yechiel Leiter, and the US Ambassador to Beirut Michel Issa. The official also confirmed previous media reports, noting that these individuals will represent the Lebanese, Israeli, and US sides in the talks.
No statement has yet been made by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the meeting. In a statement yesterday, Netanyahu announced that he had instructed for negotiations with Lebanon to begin "as soon as possible" with the aim of disarming Hezbollah and reaching a comprehensive peace agreement between the two countries. Israeli officials had previously stated that a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon would not be decided upon prior to these contacts.
