CENTCOM denies reports that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed

CENTCOM has reported that claims regarding Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz again do not reflect the truth.

CENTCOM spokesperson Tim Hawkins, in a statement to the British news agency Reuters, rejected the allegations regarding the Strait of Hormuz and stated that the international waterway remains open.

Emphasizing that the Strait of Hormuz is open, Hawkins said, "Maritime traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces continue to monitor developments to ensure that remains the case."

"The Strait of Hormuz has been closed due to a violation of the memorandum of understanding"

A statement issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), had claimed that Israel's attacks on Lebanon constituted a violation of a memorandum of understanding reached with the U.S., and announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed.

The statement said, "It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to ship traffic as a result of the U.S. clearly violating its promise and the memorandum of understanding by failing to implement the first article of the memorandum regarding the end of the war, the Zionist regime's (Israel's) constant violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon, its brutal killing and displacement of hundreds of thousands of oppressed people in these lands, and the failure of the Zionist occupation forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory."

Lebanon is included in the first article of the memorandum of understanding

The first article of the memorandum of understanding signed between the U.S. and Iran states: "The U.S., Iran, and their allies in the current war, by signing this memorandum of understanding, declare the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and commit that they will henceforth not initiate any war or military operation against each other, will refrain from using force or threatening to use force against each other, and will guarantee the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The final agreement will confirm the permanent end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and the other provisions of this paragraph."
