According to a report by France Bleu, a statement from Getlink announced that the tunnel has been closed to traffic "until further notice" due to an "unexpected" strike by unionized French workers.
The statement noted that the workers found the company's one-thousand-euro bonus payment insufficient and are demanding that it be tripled.
It was noted that both passenger trains and car shuttle services have been halted in the tunnel.
Meanwhile, in a post on the X account of Eurostar, which provides high-speed train services in the tunnel, it was announced that round-trip services to London have been suspended, and passengers were advised to postpone their train travel.
Footage circulating on social media showed numerous passengers waiting at London's St. Pancras terminal after their European services were canceled.
