Chief of Defence Forces Ogolla dies in helicopter crash
The death toll from the military helicopter crash in Kenya has risen to 10, with officials confirming that Kenya's Chief of Defence Forces, Francis Omondi Ogolla, was among those who lost their lives.

The death toll has risen following the crash of a military helicopter in Elgeyo Marakwet, approximately 400 kilometers northwest of Kenya's capital, Nairobi.
Ten people, including Kenya's Chief of Defence Forces Francis Omondi Ogolla, lost their lives in the crash.
Kenyan President William Ruto stated that Ogolla was visiting troops deployed in northwestern Kenya and that the helicopter crashed just minutes after takeoff. Noting that two soldiers survived the crash, Ruto announced that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Ruto said, “Our motherland has lost one of its bravest generals. The death of General Ogolla is a painful loss for me. A distinguished four-star general has lost his life while on duty and in service to his country.”
Ogolla, who previously served as Commander of the Kenya Air Force and Vice Chief of Defence Forces, was appointed as Chief of Defence Forces by Ruto last year. Ruto had previously accused Ogolla of being part of a plot to overturn the results of the 2022 presidential election.
