China calls for 'trust' from the EU
On the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the European Union (EU) to enhance mutual trust and openness, and to contribute to global peace, stability, and prosperity.

According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Xi exchanged congratulatory messages with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the occasion of the anniversary.
In his message, Xi stated that China and the EU are two major powers promoting multipolarity in the world, two major markets supporting globalization, and two major civilizations advocating for cultural diversity.
Expressing that China-EU relations have become one of the most influential bilateral relationships in the world over time, contributing to global peace and development, Xi emphasized that this relationship goes beyond mutual benefit and "illuminates the world."
Xi stated that both sides should adhere to multilateralism, defend equality and justice, oppose unilateralism and bullying, and build an equal and orderly multipolar world along with inclusive economic globalization. In this regard, he called for enhancing mutual understanding, trust, and openness to properly handle differences and frictions.
It is noteworthy that the Chinese leader's call comes at a time when trade tensions are rising due to tariff policies during U.S. President Donald Trump's new term, and when his foreign policy orientations are weakening relations with European allies and the transatlantic alliance.
