Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a statement regarding Syria, called for allowing the Syrian people to make their own decisions independently.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that they support the restoration of peace in Syria as soon as possible following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, and support the reconstruction of the country under the ownership and leadership of the Syrian people.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Minister Wang made remarks regarding the situation in Syria during a press conference held after his meeting with his visiting Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty.
Stating that China has long pursued a policy of friendship and cooperation with Syria, has never interfered in the country's internal affairs, and respects the choices of its people, Wang shared the assessment: "We support the restoration of peace in Syria as soon as possible, the advancement of the internal political process in line with the principle of 'Syrian-owned and Syrian-led,' and the pursuit of a national reconstruction plan that aligns with the will of the people through inclusive dialogue."
Wang emphasized that "Syria must firmly oppose all forms of terrorism and extremism in the future."
Calling on the international community to protect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect its national and religious traditions, and allow the Syrian people to make their decisions independently, Wang stated, "All countries should reach out to Syria together, lift the unilateral illegal sanctions that have been imposed on the country for years, and alleviate the dire humanitarian situation."
