China has issued an announcement following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. In the announcement, China called for de-escalating tensions between Lebanon and Israel and condemned Israel's attacks.
Noting that China is closely monitoring the situation and is concerned about the rise in regional tensions, the statement included the following: 'We call on all parties, especially Israel, to take immediate measures to de-escalate the situation and prevent the conflict from escalating and spiraling out of control.'
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it opposes actions that violate Lebanon's sovereignty and security and that escalate the conflict and regional tensions.
The statement pointed out that the tension between Israel and Lebanon is a spillover effect of the conflict in Gaza, emphasizing that the urgent priority is to implement the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, stop the attacks in Gaza as soon as possible, and ensure peace and stability in the Middle East.
At least 1,540 people have lost their lives in Israel's attacks on Lebanon so far
CHINA CALLS ON ITS CITIZENS TO LEAVE LEBANON
A statement from the Chinese Embassy in Beirut also noted that the security situation in the country is 'dire,' pointing to the increasing violence and casualties caused by airstrikes in the conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
The embassy advised Chinese citizens not to travel to Lebanon, and for those already in the country to leave immediately or move to safe areas, warning that those who remain may face security risks that would make it impossible to provide assistance.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military on Beirut on September 27.
Hezbollah is responding to the killing of its leader with rocket and missile attacks. No major damage has been reported yet in these attacks, which have mostly targeted military bases on the Israeli side.
Nearly 150,000 people have been displaced within the country due to the airstrikes Israel has been conducting on Lebanon since September 23.
While the wave of migration from the southern parts of the country to the capital Beirut and the north continues, it is reported that tens of thousands of people have migrated to Syria.
