Civil war continues in Sudan: 70 killed in drone terror attack

It has been reported that at least 70 people were killed as a result of a drone attack on a hospital in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan's North Darfur state. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq expressed their reactions to the attack in official statements.

In an initial statement by the El Fasher Resistance Committees, it was stated that 67 people, including patients and their companions, had lost their lives in the attack carried out by the RSF on the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher.

According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Darfur Regional Governor Mini Arko Minawi stated in a post on his Facebook account that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had targeted the emergency department of the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, with a drone.

Minawi stated that 'all patients in the emergency room, including more than 70 patients, among them women, children, and others, were killed' in the attack.

Sharing photos of the attack, Minawi drew attention to the destruction and bloodstains in the hospital's emergency department. The statement noted that the emergency department had become inoperable due to the attack.

Reacting to the attack, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq emphasized that targeting hospitals in war is unacceptable. The statements demanded that the parties sit at the negotiating table to end the civil war in the country.

The UN had reported that at least 1 million people had been displaced as a result of the civil war that has been ongoing in Sudan for nearly 2 years, and that an equal number of people were facing hunger and thirst

CIVIL WAR IN SUDAN

Violent clashes have been taking place in Sudan between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army since April 15, 2023. The two sides began fighting due to disagreements over issues such as military reform and integration. So far, all initiatives launched to end the war have remained inconclusive.

According to the United Nations (UN), more than 20 thousand people have lost their lives as a result of the clashes in Sudan, which is experiencing one of the world's largest displacement and hunger crises.

Since the war began in April 2023, the number of people who have left the country has exceeded 3 million, and nearly 9 million people have been internally displaced. More than 25 million people are in need of humanitarian aid.
