According to a report on the "CNN Greece" news site, following the start of the Israel-Palestine conflict, the US, aiming to be prepared for any eventuality, sought to use the infrastructure of the Hellenic Armed Forces to station its military aircraft at a "safe distance."
In photographs obtained by CNN Greece from the Souda Base in Crete, 7 US air refueling vehicles, 10 C-130 transport aircraft, one KC-135 aerial refueling tanker, and one Boeing P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare aircraft were seen.
The report alleged that US aircraft began arriving over the weekend at the Elefsina Military Airport, which the US had requested to use for the deployment of its large military aircraft.
