Claims of a phone call between Trump and Putin: Kremlin does not deny

The US press, claiming that a phone call took place between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported that the leaders discussed how peace could be achieved in Ukraine. Speaking to the Russian press today, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that he could 'neither confirm nor deny' the call.
It was alleged in the US press that the anticipated call between Trump and Putin had taken place. According to the report, Trump held a phone conversation with Putin to address the issue of ending the war in Ukraine.
According to a report by the New York Post, Trump gave an interview to the newspaper on Air Force One on Friday, and when asked, 'How many times have you spoken to Putin?', he replied, 'I'd rather not say.' According to the newspaper, Trump added that ''Putin does not want to see people dying.''
Telling the newspaper that he has 'always had a good relationship with Putin' and that he has a concrete plan to end the war, Trump made the following remarks in the interview:
''I hope it happens quickly. People are dying every day. The war in Ukraine is very bad. I want to end this damn thing.''
There has been no statement from the Kremlin or the White House regarding the New York Post report. Trump announced that he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week to discuss ending the war.
In a statement last night, Zelenskyy argued that Putin wants to continue the war and that Ukraine needs more support. There was no comment from the White House regarding Zelenskyy's statements.
PESKOV'S 'WE ARE IN CONTACT' STATEMENT
Speaking to the Russian news agency Interfax, Peskov confirmed that discussions are being held with the US through various channels, but stated that he could not comment on the claims regarding Trump's phone call with Putin.
In a statement on January 24, Putin emphasized that he and Trump should meet to discuss issues such as the war in Ukraine and energy. Noting that communication is being established with the new administration in the US in various ways, Peskov said, 'These communications are also being conducted through different channels.'
Pointing out that he could not be aware of all developments due to the intensity of these communications, Peskov said:
'Therefore, I can neither confirm nor deny such a conversation.'
