The DAVA Party, which is preparing to enter the European Parliament elections to be held this summer and is planning to participate in elections in Germany, with a founding cadre that includes names close to the AKP and President Erdoğan, continues to occupy the German public agenda.

A striking claim has been made regarding the DAVA Party, which was founded in Germany.

According to a report by the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, it is alleged that the DAVA Party, which includes figures close to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in its ranks, aims to use Turkish-origin athlete Mesut Özil, who once played for Fenerbahçe and wore the German national team jersey, as the face of its campaign for the elections.

According to the report cited by Sözcü, the newspaper claimed that the 35-year-old Özil was chosen specifically for German voters of Turkish origin, and noted that the party must collect 4,000 signatures by March 18 to be able to participate in the elections.

Meanwhile, the party founder continues to diligently collect signatures from supporters. DAVA's top candidate, Fatih Zingal, spoke to Bild am Sonntag. Zingal said, "The phones won't stop ringing. We are receiving a lot of support, including from very prominent supporters."

"ÖZIL IS A GREAT PUBLIC FIGURE"

While stating that there are celebrities who can be used to identify problems existing in society, Zingal cited Mesut Özil (35) as an example. Speaking to the German media, Zingal said, "He is a good man, we think he is great. He did a lot for the German national team. He is a great footballer, a great public figure."

The newspaper, which reported that Zingal expects help from the footballer who is particularly popular in Turkey, quoted Zingal as saying, "Of course, we would be very happy if Özil were the campaign face for DAVA. With Özil, you can clearly see what DAVA's program is: You are recognized in German society, you are the playmaker of the national team, you are considered perfectly integrated. And from one day to the next, you are excluded."

Reminding that many immigrants of Turkish descent live with discrimination, Zingal told Bild am Sonntag, "This is the reason why so many people are showing interest in the party right now."

In the past, President Erdoğan had supported Özil when he implicitly accused the German national football team of racism. In 2018, Erdoğan had said, "I kiss Özil's eyes. I stand behind Mesut's statements." Özil's manager did not make a statement regarding the matter.

ALL FOUR FOUNDERS SUPPORT ERDOĞAN

The DAVA party has four founders. These include Mustafa Yoldaş, a Turkish doctor in Hamburg. It is known that Yoldaş is registered in the German Interior Ministry as a HAMAS supporter and served as an executive for the IHH, which was banned until 2010.
