Claims that Trump is working on a new 'travel ban'

Two officials with knowledge of the matter, speaking to the New York Times, stated that the new ban would be more comprehensive than the ban order Trump issued during his first presidential term.

It was stated that the draft of the new travel ban, which is reportedly being circulated among the US Departments of State, Justice, Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for finalization, includes information that countries the US views as threats to national security will be classified as "red," "orange," and "yellow."

It was stated that while a travel ban to the US will be imposed on citizens of countries in the red category, restrictions will be applied to countries in the orange category, and countries in the yellow category will be given 60 days to address their "deficiencies."

While no details were provided regarding the countries in the orange and yellow categories, it was claimed that the red category would include Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela—countries that were under Trump's previous travel ban—and that Afghanistan and Pakistan are also expected to be added to this list.

During his first presidential term, Trump's implementation of a travel ban on citizens of these countries, citing the need to "protect the US from terrorist attacks," had caused long-standing controversy.

During his November 2024 presidential election campaign, Trump stated that if he won, he would bring back the controversial travel ban he implemented during his first term on some Muslim-majority countries in a broader and stronger form.
