Cold snap hits the US, iguanas fall from the sky
Severe cold weather in the US state of Florida has caused iguanas to freeze and fall from trees. While temporary permission was granted to collect the hundreds of immobile animals, authorities issued a warning to citizens to "stop bringing them in" as the volume increased.

The extreme cold weather felt across the US has also made its impact felt in Florida. Green iguanas, which are normally accustomed to a warm climate, froze due to the low temperatures, fell from trees to the ground, and remained immobile for long periods.
TEMPORARY COLLECTION PERMIT
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) granted citizens permission to collect iguanas for two days following the freezing event. At the end of this period, authorization was granted for the "humane euthanasia" of the animals found. State officials emphasized that the species in question is considered invasive in Florida and causes damage to the ecosystem.
WARNING TO CITIZENS
Authorities called for frozen iguanas to be delivered directly to the FWC without attempting to warm them up. During the permit period, more than 1,000 iguanas were collected by the public and delivered to officials in the region.
“STOP BRINGING THEM IN” MESSAGE FROM AUTHORITIES
Following the increase in the number of deliveries, officials issued a warning not to bring in any more animals. It was reported that the collected iguanas would be euthanized using humane methods within the framework of environmental and animal welfare regulations.
