Colombia officially severs ties with Israel!

Colombia has announced that it has officially severed diplomatic relations with the Tel Aviv administration, citing attacks against the civilian population in Gaza.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro had labeled Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a 'genocidaire' regarding the ongoing attacks against the Palestinian people during a May Day rally. Petro had announced that they would officially sever diplomatic relations with the Tel Aviv administration as of May 2, 2024. 

DECISION OFFICIALLY COMMUNICATED

In a written statement from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated, "The verbal note regarding the Colombian government's decision to sever diplomatic relations with the State of Israel as of today was officially delivered to the Israeli Embassy in Bogota yesterday."

The statement noted that the process for diplomatic personnel to leave the country was communicated to the Israeli Ambassador through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Protocol Directorate.

Furthermore, the statement provided information that consular activities in Tel Aviv and Bogota will continue.
