Proposal from Colombian President Petro to end drug trafficking
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has suggested that the drug trade could come to an end if cocaine were legalized on a global scale.

In his speech at the Cabinet meeting, Petro pointed out that the drug trade is increasing worldwide.
Petro stated, "If cocaine were legalized in the world, the drug trade could end. Cocaine is considered illegal because it is produced in Latin America. However, it is no more harmful than whiskey. Scientists are also studying this. If you want peace, you have to eliminate drug trafficking activities."
Reminding that at least 75 thousand people lose their lives annually due to fentanyl according to official data in the US, Petro assessed, "Fentanyl is killing Americans, and this substance is not produced in Colombia. Fentanyl emerged as a pharmacy drug from US multinational corporations."
