David Pecker, the former head of the magazine National Enquirer, admitted during his questioning that he deliberately suppressed a story regarding an alleged extramarital affair to benefit Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Responding to the prosecutor, who asked if the story claiming Playboy model Karen McDougal had an extramarital affair with Trump in 2006 and 2007 would have been "worth its weight in gold" for the National Enquirer, Pecker emphasized that he chose not to publish the story despite paying McDougal. Stating that he believed publishing the story would have reduced the Republican Trump's chances of winning the election, Pecker answered "Yes" to the prosecutor's question, "Did you not publish the story because it helped candidate Donald Trump?"

"I SAVED THE CONTACT INFORMATION"

During the hearing, Trump's former assistant Rhona Graff, described as his "right-hand woman," also testified as a witness. Stating that she was the one who added the contact information for Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, the focus of the case, to the Trump Organization's computer system, Graff noted that Trump never used a computer.

Furthermore, saying she saw Daniels at Trump Tower once, Graff referred to the TV show Trump hosted between 2008 and 2015, stating, "I remember Trump saying on the show that Daniels could be an interesting contestant." Graff pointed out that this might be why Daniels visited Trump Tower. Another witness, banker Gary Farro, confirmed that he helped Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen open the bank account allegedly used to make the 130 thousand dollar payment to Stormy Daniels. The court announced that the next hearing on Tuesday would continue with Farro's testimony.

In a statement after leaving the court, Trump challenged US President Joe Biden, who had previously said he was ready to debate him in person. "I invited Biden to a debate. We can do it anytime, including tonight. I'm ready, here I am," said Trump, adding that he is "willing" and "able" to debate Biden.

COULD FACE UP TO 4 YEARS IN PRISON

In the case, also known publicly as the "hush money" trial, Trump is accused of paying "hush money" to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election and falsifying official records to cover up the payment. It is stated that Trump could face up to 4 years in prison at the end of the trial, which is significant as it marks the first time in US history that a former US President has been tried in a criminal case.
