Critical stage reached in negotiations for a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas

Negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a permanent ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza are nearing an end. According to information obtained from security sources, the text prepared between the parties has reached its final stage, and the details of the hostage exchange have also been clarified. 

NEGOTIATIONS ON HOSTAGE EXCHANGE 

According to the draft negotiation text, which has not yet been finalized, it is planned that Israel will release 12 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for each hostage held by Hamas. 

Israel is negotiating how and based on what criteria it will release the Palestinian prisoners in its own prisons. It is noted that while Israel has agreed to release those serving sentences of under 30 years, it is demanding veto power over the release of those serving sentences of over 30 years.

 In this context, approximately 50 people, including Marwan Barghouti, one of the symbolic leaders of the Fatah movement of Palestine, are serving sentences of over 30 years.

NUMBER OF HOSTAGES HELD BY HAMAS 

While it is estimated that Hamas holds approximately 120 Israeli hostages, it is stated that other groups fighting against Israel in Gaza also hold hostages. 

It was emphasized that Hamas has maintained a constructive stance during the negotiation process and that the process is progressing positively. 

It is stated that Turkey's contribution to the negotiations is significant, but that the stance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is slowing down the process. Furthermore, it is assessed that Yahya Sinwar, who succeeded the assassinated Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, may prolong the negotiation process due to his presence in Gaza.

These negotiations, which are supported by Turkey and involve intensive efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, are expected to conclude in the coming days.
