A major operation conducted by state forces against cartels managing illegal drug trafficking in Mexico has led to widespread tension across the country. Renowned journalist Cüneyt Özdemir reported that he is stranded in his hotel in Mexico, where he was vacationing, due to the clashes.
The operation targeting Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and nicknamed "El Mencho," took place in the mountainous regions of Jalisco. The claim that Cervantes, who has long been pursued by U.S. and Mexican authorities, lost his life in this operation has further escalated tensions in the country.
Following the drug lord's death, clashes and retaliatory actions broke out in many states. Vehicles and buses were set on fire by cartel members, and transportation networks across the country were disrupted. As the scale of the security crisis grew, numerous flights were also canceled.
