Curfew in Los Angeles

The U.S. state of California is experiencing a wildfire disaster. As wildfires in Los Angeles County, California, continue to spread due to wind, firefighting efforts are ongoing.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said in a statement at a press conference regarding the fire that a curfew has been imposed covering all mandatory evacuation zones.

Stating that officers are patrolling evacuated areas to prevent looting or theft, Luna noted that 153 thousand people are under evacuation orders due to the fires, evacuation warnings affect approximately 166 thousand 800 people, and approximately 57 thousand 830 structures are at risk.

"THE FIRE CONTINUES"

Providing information about the fire in the Pacific Palisades area at the meeting, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said, “The fire is currently burning across 20 thousand 438 acres, and 3 thousand 73 personnel are continuing efforts to combat the fire.”

Expressing that teams worked very hard throughout the night and strengthened containment lines, Crowley stated, “Thanks to favorable weather conditions throughout the night and the diligent work, efforts, and commitment of our first responders, we can report that the Palisades fire is currently 8 percent contained.”

ONE PERSON DETAINED ON SUSPICION OF ARSON

Announcing that 1 person was arrested following the fire that started yesterday on the Ventura border of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Chief Dominic Choi said, “Police received a report at 16:32 local time that neighborhood residents had caught and subdued a suspect attempting to start a fire.”

Stating that the individual was detained on suspicion of arson, Choi said there was not “sufficient cause” to arrest the individual for the crime of arson. Choi added that the suspect was arrested for a parole violation.

"13 THOUSAND 956 ACRES HAVE BURNED"

Speaking about the fires in Eaton, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone stated, “So far, 13 thousand 956 acres have burned, and the fire is 3 percent contained. Between 4 thousand and 5 thousand structures are at risk of damage, and there are currently 1 thousand 527 fire personnel on duty.”

Emphasizing that the Los Angeles Fire Department fought the wildfires throughout the night, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass noted that National Guard support has been provided, allowing firefighters and police officers to work to keep everyone safe. Announcing that 2.5 million dollars were raised within 24 hours to help with post-fire reconstruction efforts, Bass said, “We are already putting plans in place that will ensure we rebuild aggressively. There is nothing Los Angeles cannot do if it stands united.”
