Tensions are rising in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. As protests continue unabated in the city following large-scale detention operations targeting immigrants, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has made a critical decision. Mayor Bass has declared a nighttime curfew in the city center, which has become the epicenter of the incidents.
In her official statement, Bass announced that both a "local emergency" and a "curfew" have been declared in the area, emphasizing that this step was taken due to security concerns. The curfew will begin at 8:00 PM local time and remain in effect until 6:00 AM. It was reported that the restriction will only cover an area of approximately 2 kilometers in the city center.
Informing the public via social media, Bass made the following remarks regarding her decision:
“I am closely monitoring the situation in downtown Los Angeles and am preparing to take new measures to protect our communities. To stop bad actors taking advantage of the chaotic escalation, I have declared a curfew in downtown Los Angeles starting at 8:00 PM tonight. If you do not live or work in downtown Los Angeles, stay away from this area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who violate the curfew, and you will be prosecuted.”
