Death toll during Hajj rises

Saudi Arabia's Mecca city has seen an increase in the number of people who lost their lives due to extreme heat during the Hajj.

Saudi Arabia stated that the number of people who lost their lives during the Hajj pilgrimage due to extreme heat in the holy lands has risen to 1,301, noting that the majority of those who died had not registered for the pilgrimage.

Saudi Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel stated in his announcement that 83 percent of those who lost their lives were individuals who walked long distances under direct sunlight without adequate shelter or protection.

Al-Jalajel described this year's Hajj management as "successful," stating that specialized medical treatment was provided to more than 465,000 people, including 141,000 who did not have official permits to perform the Hajj.

An Egyptian cabinet official said that approximately half of the deceased pilgrims were Egyptian.

Saudi authorities announced that 1.8 million pilgrims visited the holy lands this year, with 1.6 million of the pilgrims coming from abroad.
