Death toll in Iran protests rises to 646

As mass demonstrations in Iran, which began on December 28 in response to the high cost of living and evolved into anti-government protests, continue, the US-based non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) has shared the latest data regarding the toll of the protests with the public.

In the statement made by the HRA, it was noted that the number of people who lost their lives in the protests has risen to at least 646, and it was stated that "Among these are 505 protesters, including 9 children, 133 military and law enforcement personnel, 7 civilians who did not participate in the protests, and 1 prosecutor."

Noting that some death cases are still under investigation, the statement said, "HRA has received reports of 579 additional death cases that are still in the verification stage."

It was reported that the number of people arrested during the demonstrations has reached 10,721, and the statement added, "The protests, which have spread to 606 locations in 187 cities across Iran, continue despite a complete blackout of communications."

THE TOLL HAS GROWN HEAVIER

In a statement made by the HRA yesterday, it was reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the protests that have been ongoing in Iran since December 28 had risen to at least 544, and the number of those arrested had reached 10,681.
