Swedish Minister for Schools Lotta Edholm announced at a press conference that smartphones have been banned in primary and secondary schools across the country.

Stating that according to scientific research they have conducted, students will feel better in class without mobile phones, Edholm expressed that they made this decision because smartphones distract students and negatively affect exam results.

Pointing out that students' mobile phones will be collected and locked in a safe before entering the classroom, Edholm stated that teachers will leave their own mobile phones in a place they deem appropriate and will not use them during the lesson.

Edholm announced that the smartphone ban in schools will take effect starting July 1, 2026.
