Diabetic patient who consumed excessive alcohol has penis amputated

A 65-year-old diabetic patient living in the US lost his penis after developing gangrene in his body due to excessive alcohol consumption.

According to a report in T24, it was determined that the 65-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed, had stable vital signs following tests, but his prostate was abnormally enlarged and he had numerous abscesses.

After blood transfusions, insulin, and antibiotic treatments failed to work, the man's gangrenous penis was amputated.

The man, who was determined to have developed penile necrosis, was discharged following the amputation.

Doctors writing in the journal Urology Case Reports stated the following:

"The development of localized ischemic gangrene in the penis is an extremely rare condition and carries a high risk of mortality due to the high risk of sepsis. In this case, a total penectomy had to be performed as no suitable tissue could be found for a partial penectomy, and the entire penis was removed. The patient was informed about the surgical indication and the potential long-term consequences."
