Drone carrying explosive device found at airport in Germany

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) carrying an explosive device was found at Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany. Following the incident, bomb disposal teams were directed to the area, and security measures at the airport were increased.

EMPLOYEE NOTICED IT, BOMB DISPOSAL ROBOT DISPATCHED

Saxony police announced that an employee on duty during the night noticed the suspicious device in the area where Ukrainian cargo planes were parked. Upon the report, a bomb disposal robot was sent to the airport.

SECOND OBJECT COLLIDED WITH CARGO PLANE

Authorities reported that a second object, whose identity has not yet been determined, collided with a cargo plane in the vicinity of the airport. It was stated that the plane, which sustained minor damage, landed safely at Hannover Airport.

A police spokesperson stated that the object carrying the explosive device was detected near the parked Antonov-type cargo planes.

CONTROLLED EXPLOSION CARRIED OUT

Security teams carried out a controlled explosion after removing the detonator from the device. Following the operations, flights resumed on the airport's north runway, while it was announced that the south runway remained closed as a precautionary measure.

MINISTRY OF INTERIOR LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced that the incident is being investigated in all its aspects and that security units have initiated an inquiry.
