According to local media reports, a joint statement issued by the Ministries of Education and Health stated that measures in schools have been increased due to the rise in air temperatures.
The statement, which pointed out that the heatwave affecting East Africa is also impacting South Sudan, noted that education in all schools has been suspended as of this week.
Meanwhile, it was advised that children should not play outdoors, and caution against heatstroke was urged.
While temperatures in South Sudan are expected to rise to as high as 41 degrees, the heatwave is estimated to last for at least two weeks.
