The documents revealed that many high-level Russian officials had direct correspondence and meetings with Epstein, and that Epstein made repeated attempts over the years, using various names, to arrange a meeting with Putin.
In Epstein's private emails, it was observed that there were numerous correspondences throughout the 2010s to arrange a meeting with Putin through former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland, and that these efforts with Jagland continued intermittently until 2018.
The Department of Justice files also showed that Epstein was in contact with high-level figures such as Sergey Belyakov, a top graduate of the Russian Federal Security Service Academy, Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who is close to the Kremlin, and Vitaly Churkin, Russia's former Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
There is no record in the U.S. Department of Justice files indicating that Epstein held any meeting with Putin despite all his attempts.
Putin's name appears more than 1,000 times in the released Epstein files, but the vast majority of these references consist of news clippings and media summaries about Putin rather than personal relationships.
