EU calls on Trump to work together
The European Union (EU) leadership has sent congratulatory messages to Donald Trump, who emerged victorious in the US presidential election. EU leaders called for continued cooperation by maintaining strong transatlantic ties.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a post on her social media account, "I warmly congratulate Donald Trump."
Von der Leyen shared the message, "The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. So let's work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them."
European Council President Charles Michel also noted in his congratulatory message, "The EU and the US have an enduring alliance and a historic bond. As allies and friends, the EU looks forward to continuing our constructive cooperation."
MICHEL SIGNALS THAT THE EU WILL FOLLOW ITS OWN PATH
Michel noted that the EU will continue to follow its path in line with its strategic agenda as a strong, united, competitive, and sovereign partner. During Trump's first term as US leader from 2017 to 2021, the Washington-Brussels axis witnessed serious tensions.
The EU leadership had been preparing for a potential Trump victory for some time.
