The statement included the following: “We can confirm a Class A mishap involving a Marine Corps F-35B near MCAS Miramar. The pilot ejected from the aircraft and was recovered. In images shared on social media, thick smoke was seen rising from the area where the aircraft crashed. It was reported that fire crews intervened in the fire that broke out after the accident.
