Far-right leader Le Pen: 'Macron wants France to enter the war'

The leader of the far-right National Rally (RN) party, Le Pen, evaluated French President Emmanuel Macron's statements regarding allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons to "neutralize" Russian military bases during a program she attended on the France Info channel.

Describing these statements by Macron as a "new step of investment" in the conflict, Le Pen said, "Macron wants France to enter the war. This statement is a new step toward that. I am against this, and I believe it creates a major risk for the safety of our citizens."

Stating that she is in favor of supplying only defensive weapons to Kyiv, Le Pen noted that "she is against allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons to strike targets on Russian soil, just like Germany and the US."

Le Pen pointed out that this could create a "risk of World War III."

During his visit to Germany on May 28, Macron had announced that he wanted Ukraine to be authorized to attack military positions in Russia from within its own territory using Western weapons.

Justifying this by showing a map of the front lines in eastern Ukraine, Macron had remarked, "Ukrainian territory is effectively under attack. It is effectively under attack from bases located in Russia. How will you explain to the Ukrainians that they need to protect their cities? If you tell them, 'You must not reach the point from where the missiles are fired,' then you are basically saying this: 'We will provide you with weapons, but you must not defend yourselves.'"
