FBI provides update on assassination attempt against Trump: 'Extremely serious'

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has provided a public update regarding the 'assassination attempt' against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The FBI described the attack as 'extremely serious' and reported that the assailant targeted Trump in a 'well-planned' attempt.

Acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, along with other officials, held a press conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, regarding the incident described as an assassination attempt against Trump.

Rowe stated that Trump is receiving 'the highest level' of security at his Florida property, similar to when he was president, and that he is aware of this.

Rowe noted, 'President (Joe) Biden has been very clear that he wants the highest level of protection for former President Trump and Vice President (Kamala) Harris,' while adding that as the Secret Service, they are careful even with the most sensitive security details.

He emphasized that the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, may have been lying in wait in the bushes for about 11 hours, but that Trump was not in his line of sight.

Meanwhile, FBI Miami Field Office official Jeffrey Veltri stated that they are investigating the incident in all its dimensions and have interviewed the suspect's family and associates.

Veltri used the expression, 'The FBI views the incident, which is being treated as an assassination attempt against Donald Trump, as 'extremely serious'.'

Noting that the suspect Routh appeared active online on social media platforms during the incident, the FBI official said that all of Routh's social media accounts are being examined.

Veltri also mentioned that the suspect had posts about 'finding mercenary fighters from Afghanistan and wanting them to fight in Ukraine.'

Stating that they are still investigating whether the suspect acted alone or with others, Veltri added that they aim to reach more comprehensive findings by obtaining search warrants for Routh's vehicle, mobile phone, and other electronic devices.

Regional police officials who took the floor explained that they found an AK-47 style rifle with an obliterated serial number, a digital camera, a bag, and some food in the suspect's possession.
