Federal investigation into New York Mayor Eric Adams: Cooperation with Turkey under scrutiny

New York Mayor Eric Adams, who was elected 3 years ago to lead the most populous city in the U.S., has faced increasing scrutiny as part of multiple federal corruption investigations. 

According to a report by Deniz Kıryazı from T24, although he has not yet been convicted, Adams, who is the first mayor in the city's history to be charged while in office, stated the following:

 "I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you that I would be a target and a target I became. I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and my spirit" 

In a video he released, Adams said he would fight the charges to the end, stated that he would remain in office, and asked New York residents for "prayers and patience"

SUSPICION OF COOPERATION WITH TURKEY

One of the investigations opened into Adams is examining whether his mayoral campaign collaborated with the Turkish government to receive illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources. 

While Adams' electronic devices were seized, the FBI conducted a search at a home in Brooklyn belonging to Brianna Suggs, Adams' chief fundraiser, as part of the investigation. 

It was also stated that the investigation is looking into whether Adams pressured the city's fire commissioner to approve the construction of a new building that would house the Turkish House (Türkevi) in New York, despite past security concerns.
