First move against Trump's open threat: Call for rallies

Following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a US operation, all eyes have turned to US President Donald Trump's next move. Trump's messages, which point toward new countries, have caused widespread repercussions in the international community.

In the wake of these developments, Colombia has become one of the most frequently mentioned countries. US President Trump's harsh statements toward Colombia have prompted the Bogotá administration to take action.

OPEN THREAT FROM TRUMP TO COLOMBIA

US President Donald Trump made statements directly targeting Colombian President Gustavo Petro. Accusing Petro of "producing cocaine," Trump implied that an intervention similar to the one carried out in Venezuela could also be on the agenda for Colombia.

These statements have rapidly escalated tensions in the region and were assessed by the Colombian government as an open threat.

Following these events, Colombian President Gustavo Petro made a statement on the social media platform X, characterizing Trump's words as "illegal." Petro warned that if he were to be arrested by American forces, a major popular movement would begin in the country.

Using a symbolic expression in his statement, Petro drew attention to a mass uprising with the words, "the people's jaguar will be set free."

REFERENCE TO HIS PAST: WORDS ABOUT WEAPONS ON THE AGENDA

Petro, who is known to have been part of an armed group in the past and laid down his arms under the 1989 Peace Agreement, also referred to this period in his statements.

Recalling the promise he made to lay down arms in the past should a threat to his country's sovereignty arise, Petro stated:

"Even though I am not a soldier, I know war and underground struggle. I swore in 1989 that I would never touch a weapon again, but for the sake of the homeland, I would take up the weapons I do not want again."

The Colombian President also gave a clear message to the country's military in his statements. Petro stated that no military official who places the US flag before the Colombian flag would be tolerated.

In this context, Petro said, "Any commander who prefers the US flag to the Colombian flag will be immediately dismissed by my order and the order of the soldiers. The Constitution tasks public power with defending the sovereignty of the people."

CALL FOR NATIONWIDE RALLIES

Finally, taking a new step, Gustavo Petro announced that they would respond to Trump's accusations in the squares. Announcing that large-scale rallies would be held across the country, Petro issued an open call to the Colombian people.

Petro stated, "Hang the Colombian flag in your home. We are meeting in all of Colombia's squares on Wednesday at 16:00. Now is the time to defend national sovereignty."
