A senior Ukrainian official speaking to French media reported that their country has reached an agreement with the US regarding precious minerals. On the other hand, it was stated that the agreement could be signed on Friday.
According to the report in Reuters, Zelensky plans to go to Washington on Friday to meet with US President Trump.
The first statement made by US President Trump on the matter is as follows:
Ukrainian leader Zelensky will come to the White House on Friday. Zelensky wants to sign the mineral agreement with me.
WHITE HOUSE: TRUMP EXPECTS ZELENSKY TO SIGN
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that they are focused on the precious minerals agreement with Ukraine, saying, "The signing of this agreement is of critical importance. President (Donald) Trump expects (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky to sign this agreement."
White House Press Secretary Leavitt made an assessment regarding the precious minerals agreement expected to be signed between the US and Ukraine during her press briefing.
Explaining that the current US administration attaches great importance to this agreement and that for this reason, Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff postponed his Middle East trip to focus on this task, the Press Secretary said that the agreement would benefit both the US and Ukraine.
Leavitt assessed, "The signing of this agreement is of critical importance. President Trump expects Zelensky to sign this agreement. This agreement will offset American tax dollars that have funded Ukraine's defense and will also create a lasting economic partnership with Ukraine, which has been living through hell due to the war."
Stating that Trump is determined to see the Russia-Ukraine war come to an end, Leavitt said, "He wants to see the bloodshed and deaths stop. The President inherited this mess due to the incompetence of the previous administration and is determined to fix it. He is very determined to reach a peace agreement in Russia and Ukraine, as well as in the Middle East."
US President Trump said in a statement yesterday that he expects Zelensky to come to the White House this week or next week to sign the precious minerals agreement.
