ISIS FLAG FOUND IN VEHICLE
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that an ISIS terrorist organization flag was found in the vehicle that plowed into the crowd in New Orleans. The attacker was identified as 42-year-old US citizen Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
CONDEMNATION FROM THE UN
It was reported that United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the vehicle attack in the US city of New Orleans in the strongest possible terms.
In a statement from the UN Press Office, it was recalled that the attacker drove into a crowd celebrating the New Year, causing the deaths of at least 15 people and injuring more than 30 others.
The statement conveyed that Guterres condemned the attack in the strongest terms and extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of the United States.
The statement also noted that Guterres wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 42-year-old attacker named Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who arrived at Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter, drove his pickup truck into the crowd while New Year's celebrations were underway, then got out of his vehicle and opened fire.
While the attacker was killed in a shootout with police, it was initially reported that 10 people had lost their lives and at least 35 people, including 2 police officers, had been injured in the incident.
It was reported that the attacker displayed "deliberate behavior" and "tried to crush as many people as possible." The FBI had announced that the incident would be investigated as an "act of terror."
