US authorities have ordered the evacuation of 7,000 people due to the rapid spread of a forest fire in the state of New Mexico.
According to the New Mexico-based news channel "Koat," the fire that broke out in the forested area of the village of Ruidoso spread quickly. Officials instructed the 7,000 residents to leave their homes immediately without gathering their belongings.
Due to the fire, which has spread over an area of approximately 5 square kilometers, electricity in part of the village was cut off for safety reasons.
Numerous evacuation centers have been established in the city of Roswell, located 121 kilometers from the village.
A "poor air quality" alert has been issued for the village of Ruidoso and its surrounding areas due to the smoke caused by the fire.
