Former US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake has announced that he will support the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election to be held in November.
Flake made a post on his X social media account regarding the presidential election to be held on November 5. Stating that he previously served in the US Senate and the House of Representatives for nearly 20 years, Flake said, "I believe that America is a great country and that our best days are ahead of us, and I want to support a presidential candidate who believes in that."
Flake stated, "I want to support a candidate who respects the will of the voters and who will not use presidential authority to overturn an election if rejected by the voters, and who aims to unite our country rather than divide it."
In light of all these reasons, Flake announced that he would support the Democratic candidate Harris and the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Emphasizing that he previously served with Harris in the US Senate and with Walz in the House of Representatives, Flake said, "I know them. I know their good character and their love for the country firsthand." Flake also called on other Republicans who think like him to support Harris in the same way.
HE SUPPORTED BIDEN IN THE 2020 ELECTIONS
Although he is a Republican, Flake, who supported Democratic US President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, served as a US Senator for the state of Arizona in the US Senate from 2013 to 2019, and served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013.
Flake, who retired from the Senate in 2019 on the grounds that he disagreed with the administration of former President Donald Trump and the policies of the Republican Party, served as the US Ambassador to Ankara from 2021 to 2024.
